Hunting is a right that we have earned as a country and have been doing for many years. It began as a means of food supply and has grown into a exiting sport. Hunting remains a tradition in many families generation after generation. Hunting like anything, the more you do it the better you get. Also the location is big, and takes time to scout out the best location for what you are hunting. Although hunting is dangerous practicing the safety procedures will keep you safe and unharmed for years to come. That is why we are proud to offer the hunting supplies you want and crave.

Hunting Safety

As you should already know hunter's safety is very important. You must be at least 12 years of age to take a hunting education class, before you can hunt anything. Here are a few refresher tips in case you forgot or have yet to take the hunter's safety course:

Always treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
Beware of what your target is and beyond.
Keep your finger outside of the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
Always let someone know where you are and when you plan to return.
Wear some type of hat and blaze orange to the required coverage where you are hunting.
When leaving a tree stand make sure your firearm is not loaded.

Hunting Weapons

The two main hunting weapons used are gun and bow and arrow that we sell products for. Gun hunting is primarily for large breed animals that take a lot to put down. Typically, rifles and shotguns are used in gun hunting. Gun hunting is generally in a wooded area where it is easy to hide from the game you are after.

Bow hunting is another widely popular type of hunting and is generally done in a tree stand high above what you are hunting. It requires more steady accuracy and a shorter shooting distance. Bow hunting for large or small game is legal in the US. Also bow hunting has a longer season than other forms of hunting.

Hunting Seasons

There are plenty of hunting seasons to keep you busy nearly year round. Each hunting season relates to a different species of animal and refers to when they are legal to hunt. The variety of hunting seasons vary state to state, so check with your local DNR for rules, dates, and regulations. The more popular hunting seasons in the US include:

Deer
Bear
Moose
Buffalo
Elk
Antelope
Caribou
Wild Turkey
Small Game
Waterfowl
Wild Boar

Deer Hunting

Deer hunting is by far the most popular of hunting seasons in the US. It requires a license and the season is limited depending where you go. Deer hunting requires scouting the location and looking for signs of deer. Signs of deer include droppings, rubs, and tracks. Driving is another method when you can't seem to see any deer for a long time. It requires a group of hunters to walk a straight line through the woods hoping to kick a deer up that is sitting.

Generally deer hunting is done by sitting in a tree stand or deer blind, because deer get spooked easily. A large range of weapons are permitted in various states and during deer season. The most common firearms used during deer season include but not limited to: rifles, pistols, shotguns, and muzzleloaders.

Dressing in the right gear and having plenty of supplies is also an important factor when deer hunting. In some states the law requires blaze orange to a certain percentage and in others camouflage is acceptable. Other supplies important for deer hunting include a knife, deer drag, walkie talkies/cell phone, and whatever you feel suitable to keep you familiar with the area you are deer hunting in.

Antelope Hunting

The Antelope is the fastest animal in North America and can run at speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour. They primarily live in grasslands and shrub areas of the following states: Nevada, California, North Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Texas, and New Mexico. Rifle and bow hunting for trophy Antelope is one of the tuffer game animals to hunt. Antelope don't move at night like other animals, scouting is fairly easy if you can follow an Antelope until nightfall and chances are he will be in the same location in the morning.

Caribou Hunting

Caribou inhabit the northern forests o Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Europe, and Northern China. A full size caribou stands 4-5 feet tall and weighs 250-700 pounds. Joining an Alaskan hunting safari would be ideal to hunting Caribou. Caribou safaris are during the August, September, and October months. Caribou are best hunted using private aircraft to pursue the herds. Prepare to stay in camps where temps vary from 20F to 60F, because Alaskan weather is unpredictable.

Elk Hunting

Elk are one of the largest animals in North America. They primarily are found in the Rocky Mountain regions such as Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Tennessee, and New Mexico. Elk seasons use both gun and bow and arrow. Rifles are good for long range, but hunting an elk with a bow and arrow is more of a thrill. Drawing in Elk with a call is essential, because they have a keen sense of hearing.

Moose Hunting

Moose have four species, but the largest adult moose weighs upwards of 1400 pounds and can stand up to 7 1/2 feet high. The Shiras moose common to the US is found in western states of Idaho, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Montana. Moose are best shot using a rifle, capable of shooting a 150 grain or greater. It is best to hunt Moose early or late in the day. Moose have a great sense of smell and sight so, try to avoid the two. Moose hunting techniques include road and trail, floating down rivers, standing, and calling.

Buffalo Hunting

Buffalo are the largest animal in North America. A mature buffalo weighs between 1800-2400 pounds and is 9 to 12 feet long. Buffalo hunting is better done on a ranch. They are generally raised for meat and hides. The bison is one of the most dangerous animals if encountered alone. Tracking a buffalo down on a ranch can be fairly easy, its just the kill requires big bullets. Buffalo guides are one on one and meat processing fees are generally included. If your up for the biggest game challenge buffalo are the game to hunt.

Bear Hunting

Bear hunting can be a dangerous hunt, unless your high off the ground in a tree stand for safety. The truth is bears are generally more scared of you, than you are of them believe it or not. Unless they feel threatened then watch out. Bears are typically hunted during bow season, before they go into hibernation. Wearing camouflage is a must when bear hunting, because outta sight, outta mind is a good thing when bear hunting. Brown and black bears are found in a range of landscapes with vegetative cover. Baiting can play a big role in bear hunting as we know they eat a lot to survive. Fall bear hunting is often overlooked, adding bear hunting to your schedule, will maximize your challenge to hunt one of North America's finest big game animals.

Wild Boar Hunting

Wild hog hunting is one of the most exciting animals to hunt. Wild boar hogs have tusks that can grow to 9 inches. A mature wild hog is about 3 feet high, 4 or 5 feet long, and can weigh from 160 to 450 pounds. Wild hog hunting can be done three ways: over a bait pile, trained dogs, or still hunting from a tree or blind. Wild hogs can be hunted with any weapon of choice, weather being a firearm or knife. They also have good ears and sense of smell. If your hunting for taste the smaller hogs taste the best.

Wild Turkey Hunting

Wild turkey hunting is another great bow or gun hunting season. Using decoys for turkey hunting may increase your chances of getting a turkey, but may also be dangerous as other hunters see them as real wild turkeys. Turkey calling is another great way to attract them. Wearing camouflage to remain hidden and avoid standing will help your chances of shooting a wild turkey. Patience is a key to wild turkey hunting also, you must sit still to wait out the gobbler. Wild turkey hunting in usually done in flat land areas where they roam for food.

Small Game Hunting

Small game hunting is a great hunting season you can enjoy with more than just yourself. Small game species include, birds, and small mammals for the most part. The more popular specific small game species include: squirrels, prairie dog, chipmunk, dove, quail, woodcock, pheasants, cottontail rabbits, and grouse. Species of small game seasons vary state to state. It is a good idea to learn the habits of the game you are hunting, to pinpoint your game. Typically bird shot is used to hunt small game as it does not take much to hunt them. The .22 Long Rifle is the most popular game caliber. Even pellet and bb guns may get the job done when hunting small game if you have good accuracy. Most of these mammals are good eating also, not just shoot and kill. Although small game hunting is for a particular small species, it takes skill to hit small quick moving targets as they are.

Waterfowl Hunting

If you enjoy wetland areas, then waterfowl hunting is for you. Waterfowl species include: ducks,

geese, coots, common snipe, and migratory waterfowl. Waterfowl is primarily hunted for food, down, and feathers. You must remain camouflage during waterfowl hunting, as you can be easily spotted from flying waterfowl. Boat blinds have also become popular and resemble marshes and native grasses. Decoys also come in handy as overflying waterfowl can easily spot them. Marshes and woodland areas are ideal locations to hunt waterfowl. As every state varies on there hunting seasons, please check your local rules and regulations.

Baiting and Bag Limits

Bag limits refer to the law of which the maximum number of species in a specific area and time can be bagged. Bag limit also includes size, sex, and age of an animal. Again bag limits vary state to state, and year to year as animal populations are constantly changing.

Baiting refers to the use of decoys, scent, calls, or food to attract a specific animal you are hunting. There are also laws on how much baiting you can do over the period of the hunting season you are in. Some baiting methods require technique and some require timing to keep that species of animal returning until you get a chance to kill it.
