I grew up in the mountains of southern West Virginia. Times were hard and we ate squirrels and rabbits when we could get them . Usually we waited until after the winter months came because the game was sure to be healthy and not have ticks or worbles as the old folks called them.My earliest firearm was a H&R .410 single shot. My grandfather gave it to me before I was big enough to remember being in this world A few miles below our house was an underground coal mine. The miners had a tram or little train that came from deep down under a mountain and pulled the iron cars to a tipple a few miles away on the surface. In the early morning hours if I got up early before sunrise I would trek up the mountain with my trusty .410 and wait by the rail tracks for the tram to come by. The old operator could see far down the track with a giant headlight on the front of the open cab train. He would pull up and stop long enough for me to climb aboard with my shotgun. As he slowly pushed the big control lever forward sparks would fly from the rails. He would drop sand to give the big steel wheels enough traction to pull away. We would slowly come around the mountain and every once in a while a rabbit would jump up beside the track and be frozen in the light from the tram.Bam!!! A second later the rabbit would drop and I knew we would be eating good for supper that evening. Some mornings I would bag 3 or 4. I am 55 years old now. This past May my wife and I were in a retail store that is a chain across America. As I passed the sporting goods dept. I looked up and there was my .410 in a glass case. As I stood and looked at it tears came to my eyes. I remembered going off to war in the very early 70s and coming home to find that my .410 was missing. My mom had given it away to one of the neighborhood kids. My wife stuck the family credit card on the counter,smiled ,and said Happy Birthday! I know it doesn''t seem like a big deal to many,but just this evening I was at my friends house shooting clay pigeons with my trusty H&R .410. All the other guys had 12 and 20 gauges in my friends back yard,but I stayed up with them shooting my H&R. I just happened to come across this site later.My mom is 80 years old now and lives 2 states away. I am still going to lock this one up and keep a close eye on it. These lil guys have a way of disappearing if you don''t keep an eye on them. I have never seen a small single shot built as sturdy and with the precision as these little H&R .410s. They are a bargain for the price. In this day and age I know of nothing that is built with the precision and quality materials for the price of these shotguns, I love mine... My wife is getting kind of partial to shooting it now too. I better keep a close eye on it.

a great hi powered rifle for the money ive kill lots of deer with mine up to 200 yard. watch the recoil i now have a broken nose because of it!
